Smoothie Bowls

Smoothie bowls are one of my favourite breakfast options at the moment. It’s such a great way to kick start your day & you will certainly feel better after having this! By adding lots of variety & experimenting with lots of flavours it is so easy to get your five-a-day & ensure you are getting plenty of nutrients. Making these visually interesting & brightly coloured also encourages those tiny tums to eat plenty of their fruit & vegetables. We don’t tend to follow recipes when making these & usually go by what we have in the house at that moment in time. As long as you put some frozen fruit or veg in you should easily create that creamy texture. To create these at home all you need is a blender, the method for this is simple as all the ingredients goes into the blender at once & you just wizz until smooth & top with whatever ingredients you want. My go to flavours are below…

Tropical Goodness

Summertime always calls for a delicious, refreshing treat, but this is also high in Vitamin C which is great for the immune system! This will aid digestion & promote gut health..

  • 1/2 cup avocado
  • 1/2 cup mango
  • 1 cup pineapple
  • Coconut milk

Optional toppings

  • Desiccated coconut
  • Pomegranate
  • Chia seeds

Purple Power

This one is my personal favourite, this is filled with antioxidants to counter free-radical damage & promote cell health – perfect for sports recovery & after sitting in the sun!

Ingredients

  • 1 handful of frozen Strawberries & Blueberries
  • 1 medium sized beetroot
  • 1 frozen Banana
  • 2/3 pitted dates
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger
  • 3 tablespoons of kefir (optional)
  • Coconut milk

Optional toppings

  • Oats
  • Chia seeds
  • Pistachios (adults & older children only – do not use this for babies & toddlers)
  • 1/2 Passionfruit (again not for babies)

Tip: when removing the skin on fresh ginger use a teaspoon to scrape this away as it prevents loosing much of the ginger & it is a super quick method too!
